Meet Dr. Harold Cohen
Get to know Dr. Hal!
Being an orthodontist means the world to me. It's my life! Working with such a variety of people on a daily basis keeps me grounded as a person and exposes me to multiple facets of others’ everyday living, which I find extremely rewarding.
Education and Continuing Education
Prior to becoming an orthodontist, I received the following degrees:
- Undergraduate Degree, University of Massachusetts
- DMD, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
- Post Graduate Orthodontic Degree, University of California School of Dentistry
Although I have completed my formal education, I know that in order to ensure my patients are getting the best care possible, I actively pursue my continuing education. My profession changes almost every day, and I strive to keep up with the latest methods and technology. In order to do this, I attend continuing education courses and seminars throughout the year. I encourage my team to do the same because I feel it is important to learn new techniques, become familiar with new products and expand our knowledge as a team.
In the Practice
I have been an orthodontist for over 30 years, and still truly love what I do! I enjoy contributing to a patient's self esteem by painting a beautiful smile on them with orthodontics. I also love getting to know them and watching them mature as treatment continues and truly feel a mutual friendship at the end of their treatment.
I love that my patients like to include me in their hobbies and interests, and enjoy seeing pictures of homecoming, prom, racing, or sports. I always appreciate that my patients chose my practice for their treatment!
Our office is a great place to visit, and a blast to work in! From our rewards system with prizes to our custom t-shirts and seasonal contests, we love making treatment a fun experience for our patients. We even roll out the red carpet and do a celebration dance when they get their braces off! We always participate in the annual community Halloween parade, and sponsor an annual skating party for our patients, families, and friends.
Family and Community
My wife, Carol, and I have five children, two beautiful grandchildren, and two golden retrievers! In my spare time, I enjoy playing the bass guitar, reading, walking the dogs, jogging, listening to music, watching American Idol, or spending time with my wonderful family.
Being an active member of our community is very important to me. I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Hanover/Gettysburg Dental Society. Our practice has actively sponsored a baseball team and softball team for the last ten years. I am also active in Operation Smile, a charity that is so important to the dental community. Last year I donated a monetary gift contribution from the entire dental community as a way of thanking them for supporting me throughout the year. This year we did a community donation with all the dentists to the 'Make a Wish' foundation.
